Asimina Kiourti was born in Patras, Greece, in 1986. In 2003, she was ranked first among the 300 students entering the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece, and in 2008, she obtained the Diploma degree ("Excellent"), being ranked first among the graduates. In 2009 she obtained the MSc degree in Technologies for Broadband Communications ("Distinction") from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London (UCL), UK, and in October 2009, she joined the Biomedical Simulations and Imaging (BIOSIM) Laboratory, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where she is currently working towards her Ph.D. As part of her Ph.D., she has performed scholar visits at the ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL) of the Ohio State University (OSU), OH, USA (May – September 2012) and the Institute of Telecommunications of the Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Lisbon, Portugal (October 2011, January 2013).
Asimina has (co-) authored 4 book chapters, and 22 papers in scientific journals and international conferences. She has been the recipient of an IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship for Medical Applications for 2012 and an IEEE AP-S Doctoral Research Award for 2011. She has also been awarded by the A.G. Leventis Foundation (2010, 2011), the President of the Greek Republic (2004), the Rector of the University of Patras (2003), the Metropolis of Patras (2003) and the EFG Eurobank Ergasias Bank (2003). She has received scholarships from the Special NTUA Account for Research Grants (2010-..), the ICCS-Institute of Computer and Communication Systems (2010, 2011), the Foundation of Education and European Culture (2008-..), the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (2003-2008) and the Skoura Foundation (2007).
Asimina’s research interests include: antenna design, (medical) telemetry, electromagnetics and wireless communications. Since 2009, she is a lab assistant in the Biomedical Engineering and Microwaves Laboratories of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NTUA, and takes part in measurements in order to assess public exposure to electromagnetic fields. Asimina has served on the organizing committee of 3 International Conferences. She is a reviewer at the IEEE MTT, IEEE TAP, IEEE TBME, IEEE AP Magazine and IEEE AWPL scientific journals. She is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and the IEEE.
